BCHS Tennis in action against Evansville, Muhlenberg

Butler Co Girls Drop 5-0 Decision to Evansville Memorial:The Lady Bears Tennis Team returned to action on Friday, April 5th, wrapping up their spring break with perhaps the toughest team they will face all year.  Defending Indiana State Champions of Girls Tennis, Evansville Memorial.  The Lady Tigers are a top contender to repeat the honor too, as the Hoosier State's #2 ranked girls team.  The Lady Bears were completely shut out in games, across the board with their far superior opponents.  Memorial fields a starting line-up that includes three NCAA Division I prospects or signees and one Division II signee.  And while the girls were overwhelmed by their opponents, most of the girls seemed to agree that the match gave them some perspective that there is always more work to do.

Tennis Teams Split Decision in Greenville, both BCHS Tennis Teams returned to action in Greenville on Monday evening, April 8th.

With the Evansville Memorial match still fresh on their minds, the girls were ready to get back on the winning side of things, which they did, taking eight of nine matches and outscoring their Muhlenberg County opponents in games by a total of 84-22, a nearly 4-to-1 margin.

The boys match was more competitive, with both teams taking three singles matches.  The Bears had chances to put the match away in singles, but lost two very tight singles matches 6-8.  With the score tied at 3-matches apiece, whomever took two of the three doubles matches would be the winner.  The #1 and #2 doubles matches would be very tight.  The Mustangs' #1 team ran out to a quick 5-1 lead, before the team of Amit Hajari and Brennan Grubb stormed back to tie things at 5-5.  The set eventually went to a tiebreaker, which Muhlenberg won, but not before the Bears made that interesting as well, just dropping the tiebreak by a score of 8-6.  The Mustangs then gained a small lead early in the 2nd set and held on to take the set and match 6-3.  At #2 doubles, Matthew Embry and Dakota Merrick also found themselves in a first set tiebreaker, though they came out on top in theirs by a score of 7-3.  The duo then held on for a tight 7-5 win in the second set.  At #3 doubles, Muhlenberg picked up a 4-8 win, giving the home team a 5-4 win over the Bears.  The loss dropped the Bears to 4-2 on the season.
