BCHS Softball hosts 2018 awards banquet

The 2018 Butler County High School Bears' softball team recently held its end-of-season awards banquet at the high school Commons Area. The Bears finished 19-11 overall and were 4-2 in regular season district play, which was good for the #2 seed in the 12th District Tournament. The Bears defeated Trinity in the first round and fell to Grayson County in the championship game. Advancing to the Third Region tournament, Butler County defeated Meade County to make it to the semi-finals. The Bears lost to eventual regional champ Apollo.

Senior outfielder Tori McKinney was recognized for being named Class 1A All State Honorable Mention. McKinney also was named to both the 12th District All Academic Team and the Third Region All Academic Team. Olivia Jones, Kylee Smith and Hannah Chaney were named to the 12th District All Season Team. Jones, Smith and Dixie Garnier were named to the 12th District All Tournament Team. Chaney and Amber Thacker were named to the Third Region All Tournament Team. Chaney also won the Homer's Radio Third Region MVP. .

KHSAA Academic All State First Team (GPA 3.75 or higher): Olivia Jones, Tori McKinney, Dixie Garnier, Amber Thacker, Kylee Smith, Haley Peach, Ashley Thacker, Aleace Hall, Aubrey Clark, Andrea Deweese, Audrey Deweese, Jessilynn Embry, Allie Hunt, Conley Moore, and Leslee Washer.

KHSAA Academic Honorable Mention (GPA 3.25 to 3.74): Bailey Alford, Hannah Chaney, Evyn Frazier, Olivia Austin, Autumn Proctor.

Olivia Jones, Tori McKinney, Dixie Garnier, Amber Thacker, and Kylee Smith were also named to the Kentucky Softball Coaches' Association First Team All State Academic Team. That distinction was limited to only Juniors and Seniors.

"We had a great group of young ladies that accomplished a lot this season - both on and off the field," said head coach John Embry. "It was an honor to coach this group of girls. They played hard, were very respectful and always represented their school and community in a positive way."
