BCHS Project Prom

Early Sunday morning, following Prom, Butler County High School held their BCHS Project Prom.  Project Prom is an event held every year after Prom, in which students come and play games to win money.  The event was created to keep the students safe and off the street on Prom night.  This year’s Project Prom theme was “Project Carnival”.  With over $10,000 donated by local businesses and 81 gifts given away, this year’s Project Prom had quite the turn out.

The evening started at 12:30 with a welcome from James Runion, and a talent show, judged by Butler County Schools Superintendent Scott Howard, Butler County Sherriff Scottie Ward, and country music singer Kyle Whittaker.  After the talent show, the students were then dismissed to play whatever they wanted.

With the “Project Carnival” theme, the upper landing of the gym was decorated with tents containing games such as putt-putt golf, beat the dealer blackjack, cash-pong, and a ring toss.  The bottom of the gym contained an inflatable obstacle course, a sumo wrestling mat, a jousting arena, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.  Scattered throughout the school was such events as karaoke, corn-hole, a scavenger hunt, the best friend game, Just Dance, and a video game room.

Each upper-classmen was awarded cash after every game, win or lose.  With over $10,000 to give away, there was plenty of wealth to go around.  Many students went home with more than $100 cash.  Around 4:30 a.m., the students gathered back into the auditorium for the prize drawings.  Among the 81 prizes were items such as an iTunes gift card, a new HP laptop, a new 32’ TV, or a new iPad mini.  Names were drawn out of a bowl in front of all the students to see who got what prize.  After the drawings the students were then released to go home.

The students of Butler County High School would like to thank all of those local businesses and people that donated the money to be given away at this event.  Every year, more than 200 student safely attend this event.
