BCHS Members attend National FCCLA Leadership Conference
More than 6,800 nationwide members, advisers, alumni, and guests of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), gathered in Orlando, Florida, July 8-12 for the 2012 National Leadership Conference.
This year’s student-originated theme for the annual national meeting was “#realitycheck.” Throughout the five-day convention, participants examined and discussed several critical issues, including family, school and community violence prevention, physical as well as financial fitness, future career exploration and countless community service projects.
Over 3,600 students competed in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) which are competitive events that build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills. Four Butler County High School students competed in these events: Bailey Hunt, Rachel Johnson and Allison Kurfiss competed in Focus on Children, Junior division and Audrey Porter competed in Teach and Train, Senior division. All students earned Silver medals in competition.
Members participated in a variety of educational sessions involving life skills and leadership.
Also attending was BCHS FCCLA adviser Kimberlea Embry. Mrs. Embry was honored with the “Spirit of Advising” Award which “recognizes chapter advisers who are constantly faithful, often quietly working behind the scenes to ensure the success of their students.”
Members also participated in fun events including a trip to Magic Kingdom, a night at Universal Studios and the Florida Coast to Coast Gala. Members wish to extend a special thanks to all those who made this leadership experiences possible.
