BCHS Lady Bears Soccer

Butler County’s Dixie Garnier

The Lady Bears soccer team officially passed the half-way point in the season and are now into the homestretch. As of Monday they had played all district teams other than Meade County. Meade County or Brandenburg if you go by cities is about an hour and a half trip in a bus from BCHS. The bus departed the high school optimistic as usual in hopes of that illusive first win of the season. Meade County girls with a 6 wins and two losses record was a tall order to fill. Our girls got to the field about 10 minutes before game time. With an extension from the referees for warmup, the Lady Bears were ready to roll.

The first half got off to a quick start for Meade County with three quick goals and none for the away team. At the half BCHS girls were down 5 to 0. With adjustments at the half the game was held scoreless for most of the first part of the second half. With no subs and exhaustion taking over the Lady Bears fell to the Lady Waves. Even still with the loss after a quick talk and a good meal on the way home spirits and chins remained high.

On Tuesday night the Lady Bears hosted the Warren East Raiders. Warren East got off the bus with 30 plus players and were ready to go quickly out of the gate. The first half of the game the Lady bears held the Lady Raiders to 3 goals to none. The second half with several bright spots turned out to still be owned by the visiting team. The game was a minute shy of ending in regulation time before the Lady Bears fell to what is equivalent to the run-rule in baseball.

Quickly following the Varsity was the Junior Varsity match. Mostly consisting of the same players for both teams the wait in between was shortened and the game began. For the first 12 minutes there was plenty of action for the goalies, but no scoring. Around the 12th minute the Lady Raiders put the first goal in the back of the net. Not to be outdone Butler County’s Dixie Garnier netted the first goal for the home team. From this point on if the ball came in or near Lady Bear goalie Journey Alford it was lights out! Journey, a freshman goalie has been thrown into the fire from day one with little experience and has reacted exceptionally. She is a huge part of the continued and future success of Lady Bears soccer. The Junior Varsity game ended in a 1-1 tie and was one of the better played games of the season. The season continues home, Varsity only match-up with Barren County next Monday.
