BCHS Football: Beasley leads Bears in rushing, receiving

MORGANTOWN — Currently, four games into the 2023 high school football season, senior athlete Gage Beasley leads Butler County in both rushing and receiving. 

 Beasley has rushed 23 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

A versatile performer, Beasley has hauled in 12 receptions for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Averaging nine points per game, Beasley leads Butler County in scoring. 

Contributing offensively and defensively, Beasley is tied for the spot as Butler County's second-leading tackler. Beasley and Dillon Hudnall have each tallied 30 tackles for Brandon Embry-coached Butler County. Leading another defensive category for Butler County (1-3), Beasley has recorded a team-best three interceptions.

As a team, Butler County has rushed 127 times for 469 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ranking second in rushing for the Bears, quarterback Garrett Phelps has rushed 34 times for 114 yards and four touchdowns.

Aiding Butler County on the ground, Lonnie Phelps has rushed 23 times for 101 yards and one touchdown. 

Pacing Butler County through the air, Garrett Phelps has completed 31 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns. 

Defensively, Lonnie Phelps has recorded a team-high 36 tackles for the Bears. 

 Butler County is set to visit Hart County for a Class 3A, District 2 opener on Friday, Sept. 15. Kickoff for the Butler County-Hart County game is slated for 7 p.m.
