Bears drop game to Lyon County
 
MORGANTOWN - After a lengthy layoff, Butler County opened the 2020 boys' high school soccer season with back-to-back losses to Lyon County and Muhlenberg County. 
However, Butler County pushed visiting Lyon County during its home opener.
Lyon County 7, Butler County 2: Host Butler County fell behind and was unsuccessful in a bid to battle back as Lyon County pulled away to win 7-2 in a boys' high school soccer season opener on Tuesday, Sept. 8. 
Timothy Stewart scored four goals and dealt out one assist to lead Lyon County to the victory. Contributing offensively for Lyon County, Todd Huddleston scored two goals and distributed four assists. Rounding out Lyon County's scoring, Drake Jackson netted one goal.
Goalkeeper Cole Schroeder led Lyon County defensively, recording 21 saves while allowing only two goals.  
Alex Diaz and Pedro Perez scored one goal apiece for Butler County in the setback.
Irvin Sanchez provided an assist on one of Butler County's two goals. 
Defensively for Butler County, Diaz and Samuel Hill split time at goalkeeper. Hill recorded six saves while allowing three goals. In his outing, Diaz registered two saves while giving up four goals. 
 
Muhlenberg County 7, Butler County 0
Visiting Butler County fell behind early and couldn't overcome a slow start as Muhlenberg County pulled away to win 7-0 in a boys' high school soccer game on Thursday, Sept. 10.
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 0-2.
Muhlenberg County improved to 1-2 with the win.
Hunter Dickerson recorded a hat trick and dealt out one assist to lead Muhlenberg County to the victory. In addition to Dickerson's three goals, Mason Lile, Kye Morse, Dawson Guffy and Dylan Niemi netted one goal apiece for the Mustangs.
Camden Newman provided assists on two of Muhlenberg County's seven goals. 
Defensively for Muhlenberg County, goalkeeper Oak Shane recorded a shutout with 13 saves.
