BCHS Begins Spring Football

With the summer just around the corner, the Butler County High School football team has begun their spring practices.  Monday through Thursday players and coaches gather in the athletic facility to go over the playbook, then head to the practice field for some drills.

When asked about the purpose of spring football practice, Coach Brian Bivens had this to say: “We really like to focus on fundamentals.  It’s also a good time to get the freshmen up to speed on the Varsity playbook.  For the older guys, it’s a lot of review.  We also do a lot of player evaluation and experiment with moving players to different positions.  Summer is the time when we really hit it hard.  We are in the weight room or on the practice field constantly.  This time of year is a good time to slow things down and work on fundamentals with our younger guys.”

Although weight lifting is not a part of spring football, the players are still getting their fair share of time in the weight room.  Coaches Brandon Embry and Brian Bivens run a Wellness class at the end of the school day.  “Football never stops.  It’s the time you give in the offseason that makes the difference on Friday night” said Head Coach Ryan Emmick.

The Butler County Spring Football Game will be held on May 3rd at the high school.  Kickoff is at 5:30.  Everyone is invited to come out and cheer on the team.
