BCHS Baseball: Bears roll past Hornets in five innings

MORGANTOWN — Making a strong first impression, Butler County rolled past 4th Region member Metcalfe County 12-1 in five innings in a high school baseball season opener on Thursday, March 14.
The Bears, under the direction of first year Coach Bo West, took control early, erupting for nine runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
Metcalfe County plated its lone run in the top half of the third frame.
Extending its led, Butler County pushed across three runs during the bottom half of the fourth inning.

Butler County pitcher Malacki Murphy earned the win on the mound. Murphy pitched four innings, allowing one run on one hit while giving up three walks and recording six strikeouts. 
Contributing on the mound for Butler County, Garrett Phelps pitched one scoreless inning and logged two strikeouts. 
Butler County scored 12 runs on four hits. Murphy (one hit, two RBIs), Phelps (one RBI), Colt Akers (two hits), Duncan Tyree (one hit), Jay Peralta (one RBI), Brayden Clark (one RBI) and Sam Hyatt (one RBI) each produced at the plate for Butler County during the season opener.
Butler County is scheduled to visit Metcalfe County for a return game on Friday, April 26.
