Bears upend Franklin-Simpson, 3-2
FRANKLIN — Winning on the road, Butler County upended Franklin-Simpson, an opponent from the nearby 4th Region, 3-2 in an early-season high school baseball game on Thursday, March 16.
Jake McKee earned the win on the mound for the Bears. McKee limited Franklin-Simpson batters throughout the high school baseball matchup.
Kolton Hudson paced Butler County's offensive attack. Hudson drove in two of the Bears' three runs.
Butler County returned to the win column after dropping a game at South Warren two days earlier.
Following the win over Franklin-Simpson, Butler County improved to 2-1.
Franklin-Simpson dropped to 0-2 as a result of the loss. The Wildcats remained in the loss column after dropping a season opener to Portland (Tenn.) on Tuesday, March 14.
The Bears are scheduled to host Franklin-Simpson for a game on Thursday, April 20.
Butler County is slated to visit 3rd Region rival Breckinridge County for its next game on Friday, March 17. First pitch for the Butler County-Franklin-Simpson baseball game is set for 7 p.m.
South Warren jumps out to early lead
BOWLING GREEN -Butler County Bears fell to the South Warren Spartans on Tuesday 11-1. Will Embry started the games for the Bears and lasted one and one-third innings, allowing six hits and nine runs while walking one. Malaki Murphy threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Logan Hargrove, Justin Castlen, Garrett Phelps and Murphy all had one hit to lead Butler County.
Vincent leads Bears over Warren Central in opener
MORGANTOWN — Senior Clay Vincent led Butler County over Warren Central 15-0 in four innings in a 2023 high school baseball season opener on Monday, March 13.
Vincent earned the win on the mound, holding Warren Central hitless while recording five strikeouts and not allowing any walks.
Pacing Butler County defensively and offensively, Vincent finished 3-for-3 at the plate.
Butler County entered the opening week of the 2023 high school baseball season with additional upcoming games scheduled versus South Warren (away, March 14), Franklin-Simpson (away, March 16) and Breckinridge County (home, March 17).
