BCHS Band honors seniors during home show

The 2018 senior band members and their parents were honored Saturday prior to the home band show. 

Name:  Hagen Moore

Parents:  Amanda Lykins, Todd Moore

Years in band:   8 years

Instruments played or positions held :Trumpet and Bassoon

Honors/Awards in Band:   Various Dum-Dums

Favorite Band Memory:  Growing my hair out with Garrett and hitting him, Bailey, and Clay with various objects

Future Plans: College

Words of advice for the underclassmen:   Find a Garrett and everything will be just fine. Don’t try to dab with a trumpet.

 

 

Name: Mathew Johnson

Parents: Aaron Johnson and Rebecca McKinney

Years in band: 1 year

Instruments played or positions held :Bass Guitar

Honors/Awards in Band: none

Favorite Band Memory:  All the many years I’ve played with my fellow classmates

Future Plans:  Continuing music at U of L

 

Name:  Cooper Ingram

Parents: Sarah McKee

Years in band:  8 years

Instruments played or positions held :French Horn/ Mellophone

 Honors/Awards in Band:    Most Improved Player (Concert)

Favorite Band Memory:  Playing Moon- Ball in the band room

Future Plans:   Majoring in music education

Words of advice for the underclassmen:   Don’t do the splits at the home show, because you’ll hear about it for years.

 

Name: Logan Binion

Years in band:  8 years (2 in pit) 

Instruments played or positions held :Tuba, Pit

Honors/Awards in Band: none

Favorite Band Memory:  The water balloon fight of our senior year

Future Plans: To attend college to become a dentist

Words of advice for the underclassmen: Never give up on the race to fulfill your dreams. Life comes fast, enjoy being young.


 Name: Faith Morris

Instruments played or positions held :Flute, Alto and Bari Saxophone

Honors/Awards in Band:Most Improved Player (Concert)

Favorite Band Memory:All the times we just had fun on the buses, music, yelling, and interesting conversations happened there.

Future Plans:To get a music and psychiatry majors and help others through teaching them to express themselves through music.                                            

Words of advice for the underclassmen:For the saxophone sophomores and freshmen, you guys are amazing! Never stop playing, never stop learning. You can do anything you put your mind to, In life and in music. You are awesome.

Favorite Band Memory:   Cooper doing the splits while I was sword fighting him during the Pirates home show

Future Plans: Travel and see where life takes me 

Words of advice for the underclassmen:   Enjoy every moment and don’t stress too much because it’ll be over before you know it

Name:  Dalton “Capy” Rowans

Honors/Awards in Band:   Most Outstanding Sophomore

 Favorite Band Memory:  Going to Disney World with my band family.

 Future Plans:  Major in Broadcasting at WKU

 Words of advice for the underclassmen:  Highschool goes by way faster than you think, enjoy every minute of it.

Instruments played or positions held :Tuba/Sousaphone

Honors/Awards in Band:  Most outgoing low brass

Favorite Band Memory:  Freshmen year while preforming at regionals, it poured rain on us, which actually made us perform even better.

Future Plans: Go to college and become a physical therapist

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  Mark time, stay at attention, and always show up for practice.

Instruments played or positions held: Mellophone, pit, trumpet, drum major, president

Honors/Awards in Band:  Most improved marcher and player

Favorite Band Memory: Cooper falling in the middle of last years’ home show and doing the splits.

Future Plans: Attending WKU for dental hygiene

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  If you can survive Ausbrooks, you can survive anything


 

 Name:  Brinkley Hunt

Parents: Andrea and Jon Hunt

Years in band: 8 years

Instruments played or positions held :Flute and color guard

Honors/Awards in Band:  Just dum-dum award 

Favorite Band Memory:  When a wasp flew on Ashley Mudd’s shoulder and her way of killing it was to fall on her back.

Future Plans: To graduate high school and go to college

Words of advice for the underclassmen: I know it can be hard and stressful at times but don’t ever give up because it will all be worth it in the end.
 

 

Name: Weston Merritt

Parents: Dionne Merritt and Jamie Merritt

Years in band:  8 years

Instruments played or positions held:Snare drum for 4 years and timpani for 2

Honors/Awards in Band:  Numerous dum-dum awards with Tyler Smith

Favorite Band Memory: Indoor drumline with Cole and Tyler before Tyler quit.

Future Plans: Go to college and major in sports medicine

Words of advice for the underclassmen: No matter what Ausbrooks says, play with 12 inch stick heights and never stop drumming
 

 

Name: Haleigh Skaggs

Parents: Candace Hendrick and Joseph Skaggs

Years in band: 7 years

Instruments played or positions held :French Horn/ Mellophone

Honors/Awards in Band: Sorry I didn’t do anything for 3 years

Favorite Band Memory:  when Cooper did the splits at the home show and was actually the only horn to sound decent

Future Plans: Medical Field

 Words of advice for the underclassmen: Just because your drill sheet says you’re on the 50, doesn’t actually mean you’re on the 50. 

 

Name:  Claire Coleman

Parents: Kyle and Crystal Coleman

Instruments played or positions held:Flute 5 years, piccolo 2 years, Field Commander 1 year

Honors/Awards in Band: 2018 Field Commander

Favorite Band Memory: Playing for our awesome band moms at the concession stand after our home show performance at a football game

Future Plans:  Attend WKU- pursue a career in either Human Resources or Engineering

Words of advice for the underclassmen: Always be prepared to get sweaty and always be on time

Honors/Awards in Band:Outstanding freshman , Outstanding Junior

Favorite Band Memory:  The indoor lock- in

Future Plans: Attend college but still undecided

 Words of advice for the underclassmen: Don’t let Ausbrooks put a fortepiano on every highnote

Honors/Awards in Band:Most outstanding Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior.Numerous dum-dum awards

Favorite Band Memory:  Marching down mainstreet at Disney World

Future Plans: To attend Murray or WKU to study nursing

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  Don’t wish this time away because it’s so much more than a band, it’s a family.

Favorite Band Memory:  Meeting new people at band competitions

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  Don’t be dumb

Honors/Awards in Band:   Distinguished 4 years at solos and ensembles

Favorite Band Memory:  When Ausbrooks chased kids with sticks

Future Plans:   Become an architectural engineer

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  Have fun and don’t stress.

Favorite Band Memory:  Marching at Disney World in front of the castle

Future Plans:  Become a nurse or Para educator

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  never forget the good times you had, you’ll miss them once you’re gone

Favorite Band Memory:  Marching in the rain freshman year (El Dorado), marching down main street at Disney and riding home after competitions with Riley Slaughter

Future Plans:  No clue

Words of advice for the underclassmen:  praise the sun
