BC Softball wraps season with three wins; falls to Grayson in 12th District Tournament

Butler County Softball fell 10-3 to Grayson County in the first round of the 12th District Tournament at Edmonson County.  The loss ends the Bears' season at 19 wins, 17 losses, and one tie.    

Butler County collected eight hits in the loss to Grayson.

Grayson County was sparked by Megan England and Kara Decker, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.

Kassie Jo Phelps took the loss for Butler County. She allowed 10 runs in six innings, walked two and struck out four.

Butler County jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Lynsie Clark got things going for the Bears with a single. Natoshia White doubled, plating Amy Rogers and Clark.

Grayson County scored two runs of its own in the first. Grayson County scored on a groundout by Ashley Milliner and an RBI-single by Mudd.

Grayson County never trailed after scoring four runs in the second on a two-run double by Decker and two Butler County errors.

Amy Rogers, Kassie Phelps, and Lynsie Clark were named to the 12th District All Season Team, while Natoshia White made the 12th District All Tournament Team.  Rogers was also named to the 12th District All Academic Team with a 4.0 GPA.

In the week leading up to the district tournament, Butler County picked up four wins (Hopkins County Central, Bowling Green, Russellville, and Wayne County), while dropping two games (South Warren and Daviess County).  

Butler County made the most of 7 hits in 5-2 victory over Hopkins County Central on Monday, May 12.  Both teams had scoring chances, but it was Butler County that was able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 5-2 win.

Hopkins County Central had eight hits compared with the Butler County's seven, but they  stranded five runners on base.

Right-fielder Naomi Cade racked up three RBIs on one hit for Butler County. She tripled in the second inning.

Kassie Jo Phelps was a workhorse in the circle while bagging the win for Butler County. Phelps allowed two earned runs, eight hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.

The Bears didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the second inning when they scored on a three-run triple by Cade.

One run in the top of the third helped Hopkins County Central close its deficit to 3-1

Butler County answered Hopkins County Central's top inning with two runs of their own in the third. The Bears scored on an RBI-single by Natoshia White and an RBI-single by Abigail Fry.

After pushing across one run in the top of the sixth, Hopkins County Central faced just a 5-2 deficit. Finally, Phelps got the ground-out to end the threat.

Butler County fell behind in sixth inning in 3-1 loss to Daviess County on Tuesday, May 13.

The Bears lost a hotly-contested 3-1 game in seven innings after surrendering the lead in the sixth inning.

Pitcher Kassie Phelps allowed no earned runs, five hits and no walks while striking out none over six innings of work.

The bottom of the first saw Daviess County take an early lead, 1-0.  Daviess County never trailed after scoring two runs in the sixth on two ground outs.

Natoshia White's big day not enough, as Butler County lost 8-1 to South Warren on Thursday, May 15.  

Pitcher Kassie Phelps allowed eight runs in six innings, walked none and struck out four.

South Warren stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring two runs on two singles.

Butler County's lone run of the ballgame came in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by senior second baseman Natoshia White

South Warren answered Butler County's top inning with two runs of its own in the fourth. South Warren scored on a pair of RBI singles.

South Warren increased its lead with four runs in the fifth.

Pitcher Kassie Phelps was not deterred by lack of offense in the Bears' 2-0 victory over Bowling Green on Friday, May 16.

The Butler County Bears varsity didn't provide Phelps with much support in the runs department, but she didn't need much. She pitched seven strong innings to carry the Butler County to a 2-0 win over Bowling Green.

The Bears held Bowling Green without a run while Phelps was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up four.

Butler County stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring one run on an error.

 Butler County's offense proved too much for Russellville on Saturday, May 17, in 16-3 rout.

With five runs in the first three innings, Butler County left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI-single by Abigail Fry, a walk by Madison Clark, and a three-run double by Amy Rogers in the second inning supplied the early offense for Butler County.

Fry racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Bears.

Russellville couldn't get anything going with Zoie Pendley on the hill. In recording her first varsity win, Pendley gave up just three hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during her six innings of work. 

Butler County piled on five more runs in the top of the fifth. Catcher Cheyenne White doubled, bringing home Fry and Natoshia White to start the inning. That was followed up by Emily Rich's double, plating White.

Butler County added six more runs in the top of the sixth. Fry kicked things off with a single, scoring Natoshia White.

An early boost from Amy Rogers helped Butler County get past Wayne County, 6-3, on Saturday, May 17, in a game played at Russellville.  

Butler County scored in the first on an RBI-single by Amy Rogers and a two-run single by Lynsie Clark.

Butler County was led by Rogers' hitting. She went 3-4, drove in one, and scored three runs.

Pitche Kassie Phelps recorded the win for the Bears. She allowed three runs over seven innings. Phelps struck out four, walked four, and gave up seven hits.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the second, Wayne County faced just a 3-1 deficit. A solo home run set off Wayne Count's rally. Butler County stopped the rally after a fly out.

Butler County piled on two more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Lynsie Clark doubled, scoring Rogers to kick things off. That was followed up by Natoshia White's double, bringing home Clark.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Wayne County close its deficit to 5-3.
