BC Softball: Week Two

The Butler County High School Softball Team went 3-1 for the second week of season.

 

Butler County defeats Breckinridge County for first win 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County pulled away to defeat Breckinridge County 16-1 in three innings on Monday, March 24.

Productive Butler County, under the direction of Coach Amy Rogers, registered its first win in the 2025 high school softball season.

Butler County scored first, plating two runs in the opening inning. Then, after Breckinridge County crossed home plate once, Butler County pushed across seven runs in back-to-back at-bats to claim the victory. 

Miley Franzell pitched for Butler County and claimed the win in the circle. Franzell held Breckinridge County to one run on one hit and recorded two strikeouts.

Butler County scored 16 runs on 12 hits. Franzell (two hits), Carley Cardwell (three hits, three RBIs), Callyn Smith (two hits, three RBIs), Karrington Hunt (two hits, one RBI), Jenna Tomes (one hit, two RBIs), Taylor Smith (one hit, two RBIs) and Emmalin Mode (one hit, one RBI) each produced offensively for Butler County in its convincing victory.  

Butler County is scheduled to visit Breckinridge County for another game on Thursday, April 24.

 

Butler County lost to Warren East 6-1 

Warren East got on the board in the first inning, scoring one run. 

Miley Franzell took the loss for the Bears. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking none. Franzell led Butler County  with two hits in four at bats. Carly Cardwell led the Bears with one run batted in. Cardwell,  Emmalin Mode, and Jenna Tomes each went 1-for-3 on the day. 

Butler County 6, Franklin-Simpson 1:

Butler County pulled away to defeat Franklin-Simpson 6-1 on Thursday, March 27. 

Callyn Smith started in the circle for Butler County and claimed the win. Smith pitched four innings and posted two strikeouts.

Following Smith, Miley Franzell pitched three innings in relief for Butler County and struck out one Franklin-Simpson batter. 

Butler County scored six runs on eight hits. Franzell (one hit, one RBI), Karrington Hunt (two hits, one RBI), Emmalin Mode (two hits), Jenna Tomes (one hit, two RBIs), Carley Cardwell (one hit, one RBI) and Taylor Smith (one hit) each produced offensively in Butler County's convincing victory. Both Hunt and Tomes doubled. 

 

Butler County outlasts Grayson County in 10 innings

MORGANTOWN — Butler County outlasted rival Grayson County 4-3 in 10 innings in a 12th District softball game on Friday, March 28. 

Determined Butler County pushed across two runs in the bottom half of the 10th inning to secure the district victory over Grayon County. Down 3-2 Jenna Tomes homered to center field scoring two runs.

Callyn Smith pitched six innings in relief for Butler County and earned the win in the circle. Smith recorded five strikeouts.

Miley Franzell started in the circle for Butler County and pitched four innings. Franzell fanned two Grayson County batters. 

Butler County plated four runs on seven hits. Franzell (one hit), Jenna Tomes (two hits, two RBIs), Emmalin Mode (two hits, home run), Taylor Smith (one hit) and Lydia Brown (one hit) each delivered offensively for the Bears. 

After registering the win over Grayson County, Butler County improved to 3-4 overall and opened 1-0 in the 12th District.
