BC Softball ends regular season with 21-12 record

Butler County Softball went 3-3 over its final six games to finish the regular with a 21-12 record and the #2 seed in the 12th District Tournament.  The Bears defeated Trinity, Hancock County and Warren East, while losing to Bowling Green, Grayson County, and Greenwood.

The Bears defeat Trinity 5-1

The Bears beat Trinity 5-1 in seven innings on Wednesday, May 15, at Trinity behind Amy Rogers, who collected three hits.
She singled in the third and fifth innings and tripled in the seventh inning.

Morgan Manning struck out six hitters en route to the the Bears win. Manning allowed one earned run, seven hits and no walks over seven innings.

The Bears stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring one run on an RBI-single by Jazmin Reynolds.

The Bears got one-run rallies in the third inning and the sixth. In the third, the Bears scored on an RBI single by Rogers, bringing home Madeline Drake.

Trinity scored its only run of the game on an RBI single in the third inning.

The Bears increased their lead with two runs in the seventh. Natoshia White singled, plating Rogers to start the inning.

Downing's no-hit performance downs the Bears, 5-0

The Bears lost 5-0 on Tuesday, May 14, at Butler County thanks to a no-hitter from Bowling Green's Kat Downing.

No Bears batter was able to locate Downing's pitches during the game. Downing threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 batters and walking four. She got Kassie Jo Phelps to strike out for the final out of the game.

Bowling Green never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an error.

Bowling Green increased its lead with two runs in the seventh. Lindsey started the inning with a single, plating Vincent. That was followed up by Gilbreth's single.

Former Bear CheyAnne Gaskey threw out the first pitch at the last home game of the season.  Gaskey plays for the Murray State Racers.

The Bears upend Warren East, 5-0

Payton Grubb drove in the winning run to give the Bears the lead in the seventh inning, as the Bears hung on to beat Warren east 5-0 on Monday, May 13.
Hannah Peach hit into a fielder's choice to get on base in the seventh. She then went from first to second on a single by Jazmin Reynolds.

The Bears' Morgan Manning kept Warren East off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was on the hill. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up four.

The Bears second-inning burst enough to top Hancock County, 7-1

A five-run explosion in the second inning carried the Bears to a 7-1 win in seven innings over Hancock County at Butler County on Thursday, May 9.

Amy Rogers racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Bears. She tripled in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Morgan Manning was a workhorse on the rubber while bagging the win for the Bears. Manning allowed no earned runs, four hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings of work.

The Bears matched their one-run third inning with one more in the fifth. In the third, the Bears scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Peach, bringing home Natoshia White.

The Bears muster more hits but fall 5-4 to Grayson County

The Bears lost 5-4 in seven innings at Grayson on Wednesday, May 8, despite outhitting Grayson County eight to six.

Decker recorded the win for Grayson County. She allowed four runs over seven innings. She struck out five, walked none and surrendered eight hits.

The top of the first saw the Bears take an early lead, 1-0. A double by Natoshia White, bringing home Madeline Drake started the inning off.

After a quick strike from the Bears, Grayson County responded with two runs in the first. Grayson County scored on a two-run home run by Young.

Grayson County never trailed after scoring two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Shull and a steal of home by England.

One run in the top of the seventh helped the Bears close their deficit to 5-4. An RBI-double by Amy Rogers set off the Bears rally. But, Decker got Lynsie Clark to ground out to end the game.

Bears lose 13-0 to Greenwood

The Bears fell 13-0 to Greenwood at Greenwood on Tuesday, May 7.

Hannah Peach was solid at the plate for the Bears. Peach went 1-2. She singled in the fifth inning.

Greenwood pounded the Bears pitching, as six hitters combined for 15 hits, 11 RBIs and eight runs scored.

The game's last lead went to Greenwood thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an RBI double and an RBI single.

Greenwood matched its two-run second inning with two more in the fourth. In the second, Greenwood scored on an error.

Greenwood added seven more runs in the bottom of the third.

Butler County is set to begin 12th District play on Tuesday, May 21, with a first round contest against Grayson County.  The Bears will play at approximately 7:30 p.m.  Butler County is hosting the 2013 12th District Tournament.
