BC SCHOOLS: Extended days cut, Daugherty to retire, and Moore steps down

The Butler County Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night at Butler County High School.  Superintendent Scott Howard announced the upcoming retirement of North Butler Elementary Principal Elaine Daugherty.  After 34 years of service Mrs. Daugherty will official retire July 1. 

Howard also announced that First District School Board member Greg Moore will step down after the June meeting.  Moore has finished his degree in education and plans to pursue a teaching career.

The board approved Howard's recommendation to reduce the number of of extended days of employment starting with his position. For the 2013 school year the following days will be cut:

Superintendent- 6 days, Central office staff -4 days, principals-4 days, assistant principals- 2 days, counselors and librarians- 1 day. 

"This is a start at reducing the budget," said Howard.

According to federal guidelines the board had to approve a 10 cent raise for student lunches for 2013.  A student lunch will cost $1.75.
