BC Schools Celebrates Gains in Student Achievement & State Accountability Ratings
Butler County Schools has announced exceptional results from its latest state testing data, showcasing significant improvements in student performance, cohort growth, and overall district accountability. The data for the 24-25 school year reflects the hard work of students, educators, and the community, marking a new era of academic excellence.
District Accountability Rises to Green Status
Two of the district’s schools, Butler County Middle School and Morgantown Elementary School, have achieved a Green State Accountability-Color rating for the 24-25 school year. This marks a substantial upward shift for both schools, improving from Yellow or Orange ratings in previous years and demonstrating systemic success in closing learning gaps. In addition, all four schools remained out of the federal classifications of TSI and/or CSI, reflecting the hard work of our students and staff.
Strongest Cohort Growth in Reading and Math Tracking the progress of the same groups of students (cohorts) over two years reveals robust academic momentum:
- Butler County Middle School Cohort (6th to 8th Grade): Students demonstrated an 8 percentage point increase in Proficient/Distinguished (P\&D) scores for Reading and a 5 percentage point increase for Math.
- Morgantown Elementary School Cohort (3rd to 5th Grade): This group saw a dramatic 15 percentage point increase in Reading P\&D scores and a 1 percentage point increase in Math P\&D scores, showcasing early-grade literacy success.

Leadership Statement Superintendent: These results reflect the incredible dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families across Butler County Schools. The growth we’re seeing is the result of intentional effort and focus. It’s the result of intentional work in classrooms, strong relationships, and a shared belief that every student can succeed. While we are proud of the progress made, we know our journey is far from over. Education is a continuous process of learning and improvement. We remain committed to building on this momentum. Guided by our Portrait of a Learner, we will continue to develop the competencies and durable skills that prepare every student for success in school, career, and life.
Principals: BCHS- Butler County High School is excited about our continued success in school climate and safety, college and career readiness, and graduation rates of our students. BCHS is also pleased with significant growth in social studies and science that was preceded by hard work by so many teachers and students over the previous years. We are disappointed in our reading and math results, but we will continue to flood our students with opportunities to read, write, and discuss topics in the various content areas in our school. All of these categories are at the heart of our student experience and our mission of building a better BCHS. Go BEARS!
BCMS-For the 2024–2025 school year, Butler County Middle School (BCMS) earned a “Green” Accountability-Color rating, elevating from previous Yellow and Orange designations. This achievement highlights the school’s substantial progress in academic performance, subgroup growth, and schoolwide improvement efforts. BCMS also remained out of all federal classifications, including TSI and CSI, further affirming its positive trajectory. BCMS showed a solid performance in Math and Reading with significant improvements in Writing, Social Studies, and Science. These results reflect the incredible dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families at BCMS. BCStrong!
MES- We are so proud of the students and staff at Morgantown Elementary School. They have worked extremely hard and are very deserving of these results. Last year, we narrowly missed an overall green rating by 2 points, and that was disappointing for everyone. However, our students and staff used it as motivation rather than discouragement, and responded with higher scores in almost all categories. That speaks volumes about their work ethic and commitment to excellence. On top of that, our school reached 50% proficiency in reading for the first time in at least 14 years, so we are very proud of that as well. We plan to build on this momentum and continue to improve daily for our students and our community!
NBES Last year, North Butler Elementary celebrated earning a green rating on our state testing, and while this year we’ve moved into the orange category, we see this as an opportunity for reflection, learning, and growth. Our focus remains on helping every student reach their full potential by building on our strengths and addressing areas where we can improve. A key part of our school-wide efforts this year is strengthening literacy through initiatives that help students become confident and fluent readers. We’re implementing daily structured reading blocks, using targeted small-group instruction, and incorporating engaging reading lessons that spark curiosity and build comprehension skills. Teachers are collaborating to share best practices, monitor progress, and celebrate every step forward. Each day, our students are growing as readers and thinkers, developing the skills and confidence they need to succeed. With dedication, teamwork, and a belief in continual improvement, North Butler Elementary is building momentum toward even greater success.
