BC School District seeking parent input on reopening schools

The first of what is likely to be several steps was taken on Monday, June 29, with the meeting of the Butler County Schools’ Reentry Committee to look at different options of reopening schools.  The 30-member group was organized by Superintendent Robert Tuck and is composed of school SBDM members (parents and teachers), board members, school nurses, school administrators, Central Office personnel, parents, and community members.

Seeking input and data from parents of students in the district was the top priority of Monday’s meeting.  To that end, school officials have created a detailed questionnaire that is being made available for parents to complete for each student they have enrolled in Butler County Schools.

Supt. Tuck stressed the importance of the enrollment questionnaire and how it will guide the district’s efforts in reopening school safely and effectively.

“It’s critically important that we collect as much data as we can from parents and families in Butler County as we navigate this process,” said Tuck.  “Our goal is to hear from all parents in the district in a way that reflects the needs of each individual student, which is why we are asking for parents to complete the questionnaire for each of their children enrolled in the district.”

Based on the date received, the school district is hoping to give parents and students multiple options for returning to classes.  Broadly, this discussion is centered on three basic paths for achieving this goal:

  1.  In-person classes with soon-to-be-determined guidelines in place.  This option could include a traditional 5-day week or an alternating day format.

  2. Non-traditional instruction that could include a hybrid format that incorporates some distance learning and some in-person.

  3. Virtual Instruction (this is a computer module learning system that is a district program and separate from a particular school)

Supt. Tuck stressed that nothing has been decided and all options are on the table to determine the best approach for moving forward with a safe reopening for schools, which is why the parent enrollment questionnaire is vital.

The parent questionnaire is going live today - Wednesday, July 1 -  with a deadline for submission set for July 10.

The next meeting of the reentry committee is set for July 15.  Data collected will be analyzed by the reentry committee and school officials.
According to Tuck, the data collected from parents will play a vital role in the plans that are ultimately adopted.
