BC Drug Free

For most people, quitting smoking is extremely hard! There are many reasons for this, but one of the main reasons is the nicotine in cigarettes.  Nicotine is highly addictive and is the main addictive drug in tobacco that makes quitting so hard.  Do you know why?  Nicotine causes the release of chemicals in your brain that makes you feel good, known as a stimulator.  Over time, your brain gets used to this and eventually nicotine changes how your brain works.  Now it seems as though you need it just to feel okay.  When you stop smoking, your brain gets “angry”, causing withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, changes in mood, difficulty sleeping, and irritability.  To be successful, your brain has to get used to nicotine not being around!
