Butler County High School Cross-Country Team

The Butler County Cross-Country is ready to kick off the 2012 running season. A large team consisting of 30 runners started training back in July for the upcoming season and they are hoping their hard work will pay off. The team began the season at the Bear Run in Morgantown September 8th and will compete in their first official meet on Thursday September 20th at the Thunder Invitational at Hopkins County Central.

The team captains this year are juniors Drew Henderson, Ethan Jenkins, Chanda Hampton, and Amy Rogers. These veteran runners have been on the team for 2-4 years and are experienced at meet competition.

Last season the team advanced 3 Varsity runners-junior Ethan Jenkins, freshman Olivia Neighbors and freshman Maranda Pierson to the KHSAA state championship meet and the team has hopes this year of advancing a full team to compete.

"We have a more experienced group of runners this year and I think this is our year to shine. The runners know they have to work hard everyday to reach their goals and they are doing just that", says Head Coach Kaitlin Harrison.

The middle and elementary teams are looking to continue their past successes. Kierra Neighbors, 7th grader, is the returning West Kentucky Elementary Champion and she will be able to compete at the Varsity level also this year. The elementary girls team was the 2011 West Kentucky Elementary girls team Champions and they are in hopes of defending their title. A mixture of old and new runners should make for another year of domination for these teams.

The Butler County Cross-Country team is coached by Head Coach Kaitlin Harrison, Assistant Coach Stan Murphy, and volunteer Assistant Coach Gary Ladewig.

Good luck to these athletes as they prepare for the upcoming season!
