BC Cross Country: Delaney Embry Has First Place Finish
To conclude the regular season, the Butler County cross-country team traveled to Logan County on Saturday October 29th to compete in the Meet of Champions.
The Varsity girls team was led by 8th grader Olivia Neighbors who finished 3rd overall with a time of 21:39. Kierra Neighbors, 6th grade, finished 5th overall with a time of 21:59. Next for Butler County was Maranda Pierson, 8th grader, who finished 10th overall with a time of 22:47 and Hannah Perry who finished 15th overall with a 5k time of 23:02. Amy Rogers, 10th grader, was the 5th placement for Butler County with a time of 25:40 and Whitney Jenkins, 9th grader, also finished well for the team with a time of 26:48. The Varsity girls team earned the runner-up trophy out of 11 competing schools.
Though other weekend events prevented the boys Varsity team from having a full team, the participating runners still had a quality performance. Ethan Jenkins, 10th grader, led the way for Butler County with a time of 19:02. Barry Washer was next with a time of 20:32 followed by Drew Henderson, 10th grader, who finished in his best time of the season.
For the middle school boys race, Caden Cardwell, 8th grader, and Connor Brown, 7th grader, were able to place in the top 10 for Butler County.
For the elementary coed 2k race, Garrison Odle, 5th grader, took top honors for the boys finishing 3rd overall with a time of 8:41. Delaney Embry,pictured above, 5th grader, was the girls champion and 5th overall with a time of 8:43. Other Butler County elementary runners finishing in the top 15 and receiving race medals were: Reece Robbins, female runner-up; Hannah Logan, 5th place female; Samantha Henderson, 11th place female; Walter Givens, 11th place male. The girls elementary team accepted the 2nd place trophy for their performance.
The Varsity team will compete in the 2A Regional meet on Saturday November 5th at 1:30pm at Ephram White park in Bowling Green, Ky. Good luck to these athletes as they hope for a return trip
to the state championship meet.
