BC Board listens to proposed ideas for In-Person graduation and Prom

The Butler County Board of Education met in a regular session on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 at the Butler County High School Auditorium.  Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, Debbie Hammers, Ryan Daugherty, and Rich Ellis were the board members present.  The meeting was chaired by Superintendent Robert Tuck.

Under Communication, Butler County High School Principal Stoye Young shared with board members a proposed idea for in-person graduation and a senior prom. Young stated, “It is our goal to give our students the most normal experience as possible for both events.” The proposed plan consisted of a graduation taking place on May 28th at 6:00 PM at the Butler County High School Football Field.  Social distancing and other safety protocols would have to be in place including seating capacity, which will be determined later based on Covid-Restrictions and guidance from the Kentucky Department of Education. The weather would also be a factor for place and time.   The senior prom is tentatively scheduled for May 1, 2021, at Southerland Farms from 7:00 PM-10:00 PM.  This event is for seniors and their date only. The ticket prices are $25 prior to Spring Break and $30 after Spring Break.  After prom activities are still being discussed and will be communicated once BCHS Site Based Decision Making Council and Buter County Board of Education have approved plans.

Also under communication, the Board listened to Transportation and Facility Director Ryan Emmick discuss plans for construction to Morgantown Community Church.  The remodel of the facility would allow the relocation of early childhood development classrooms and other supplemental programs.  This would free up classroom and facility space at Morgantown Elementary School.

Finally, under-recognition, the Board recognized Joy Franzell, a Butler County graduate, and BCHS Cafeteria Manager, who has had a significant impact on improving the BCHS grab in go breakfast program.
