BC Board of Education reviews tax rates

The board meets at the Butler County Educational Complex.

The Butler County Board of Education met in special session on Thursday, August 22, at the Butler County Education Complex.  All members were present.
Superintendent Scott  Howard gave Board members information on the tax rates for 2014.  The current rate is 37.7cents per $100 which generated $1,460,509.97 last year.  If left the same the current tax rate would generate approximately $1,497,994.53 next year due to increased property values.
According to Howard the board has three options:

  • keep the rate the same which would generate $1,497,994.53
  • take the compensating rate of 37.4 cents, which would generate the same amount of revenue as 2013,  $1,460,509.97
  •  increase the rate  4 percent, which would generate $1,537,729.53

In comparison out of the 174 school districts in Kentucky, Butler County ranks 163th, 11th from the bottom in the lowest tax rate in Kentucky.
The board approved the advertisement of the FY2014 tax rate at current rate of 37.7 cents per $100. They also set the date and time for a Public Hearing and Special Board Meeting for final approval of the tax rate.  The hearing is set for September 11, 2013 at 6:00pm.
