BC Baseball: Week Two

The Butler County High School Baseball team went 3-1 for the second week of season.

Bears shut out Colonels 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County shut out Caverna 13-0 in five innings on Monday, March 24. 

The Bears, under the guidance of Coach Bo West, improved to 2-3 after notching the win. 

Butler County set the tone early, plating four runs in the bottom half of the opening inning. 

The Bears erupted for seven runs in the home portion of the fourth inning to move ahead 13-0. 

Three Butler County pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout and record 13 strikeouts. 

Garrett Phelps started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. Phelps pitched two innings for the Bears.

Following Phelps, Justin Castlen and Will Amos pitched in relief for Butler County during the matchup. Castlen recorded a team-high seven strikeouts over two and two-thirds innings. 

Butler County scored 13 runs on six hits. Amos (one hit, two RBIs), Duncan Tyree (three hits, two RBIs), Eli Oaks (one hit, one RBI) and Mason West (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Bears. Providing an extra-base hit for Butler County in its shutout win, Oaks doubled. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Caverna for a mid-season game on Thursday, April 17. 

BCHS  3  Todd Co.  5

Butler County lost despite out hitting Todd Co. five to four.  Justin Castlen led the Bears with two hits.  Todd scored in the first inning after a Butler County error and walk. 

Brayden Clark pitched six innings in relief.  He gave up three hits and one run while striking out six and walking none.Duncan Tyree stepped on the mound first allowing one hit, no strike outs, and walking two.  

Castlen went 2-4, Mode 1for 3, Clark 1 for 3, and Henderson 1for 3.

Bears blank Warren Central

MORGANTOWN — Butler County blanked Warren Central 16-0 in three innings on Friday, March 28.

Following the win over Warren Central, Butler County evened its record to 4-4. 

Mason West and Brycen Mode combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for the Bears. West started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. The Butler County starting pitcher struck out three Warren Central batters. Closing out the game on the mound for Butler County, Mode pitched the last two innings and recorded five strikeouts. 

Butler County scored 16 runs on 10 hits. West (two hits, two RBIs), Mode (two hits, four RBIs), Brayden Clark (two hits), Justin Castlen (one hit, one RBI), Garrett Phelps (one hit, one RBI), Colt Akers (one hit), Rhett Anderson (one hit), Will Amos (three RBIs), Brock Henderson (one RBI) and Eli Oaks (one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Bears. Delivering a pair of extra-base hits, Mode doubled twice in Butler County's shutout win. 

Butler County 6, Ohio County 5 (9 innings): Butler County outlasted Ohio County 6-5 in nine innings on Thursday, March 27.  

Eli Oaks pitched two innings in relief for the Bears and earned the win. Oaks struck out two Ohio County batters. 

Along with Oaks, Sam Hyatt pitched two innings in relief for the Bears. Hyatt recorded three strikeouts. 

Garrett Phelps started on the mound for Butler County and pitched five innings. Phelps also logged three strikeouts during his stint on the mound. 

Butler County scored six runs on 12 hits. Oaks (one hit, one RBI), Hyatt (two hits, one RBI), Phelps (one hit), Brycen Mode (three hits), Justin Castlen (two hits, one RBI), Will Amos (one hit, one RBI), Brock Henderson (one hit, one RBI) and Mason West (one hit) each produced offensively for the Bears.
