BASEBALL: Bears pound Colonels; pick up 5th win of season

After a rain out at Glasgow on Thursday night, the BCHS Bears baseball team returned home to take on the Caverna High School Colonels in a Varsity/Junior Varsity doubleheader on Friday night.  This marked the second meeting of the two schools this spring.  In their first match-up, the Bears were victorious, winning 16-1.  Friday night also went well for the Bears, picking up the 14-4 victory in the varsity game and winning 1-0 in the JV.

After a good showing at the plate against Edmonson County on Tuesday night, where the Bears put up 8 runs, the offense for BCHS stayed just as hot on Friday.  After shutting out the Caverna in the top half of the first inning, the Bears were able to put up 3 runs in the bottom half.  The next five innings of play were no different, and the BCHS hitters kept pouring it on.  Junior shortstop Keston Flener had the biggest day offensively for the Bears.  Flener hit safely in all three of his at bats with 3 doubles, and 3 RBI’s.  Dillen White and Blake Graham also picked up two hits a piece.  As a unit, the BCHS hitters drove in 14 runs of 12 hits on the day.

Senior Left-handed pitcher Steven White was able to pick up his first win of the year on the pitchers mound.  He threw 4 innings, striking out 6 and only allowing 1 hit.  Flener relieved White on the mound, throwing 2 innings, striking out 2, and allowing 1 earned run.

Drew Clark was the starting pitcher for the Bears in the JV game.  Clark shutdown the Colonels at the plate, not allowing a single run to cross the plate in his 3 innings on the mound.  The Bears JV picked up the win 1-0.

The Bears were in action last night taking on Muhlenberg County in a varsity/JV doubleheader.  This was the first time the two teams met this season.  On Tuesday, BCHS will be home again at 5:00 to play a JV/Varsity doubleheader against district foe Whitesville Trinity High School.
