BASEBALL: Bears drop a pair; fall to Hancock & Breck

Butler County 3, Hancock County 5

The Butler County Bears fell 5-3 to Hancock County Hornets on Friday. The Bears scored three runs on a single in the second inning.

Hancock County scored on a groundout by Drew Lyday in the first inning, a single by Logan Willis in the first inning, an error in the second inning, a double by Jack Roberts in the second inning, and a double by Austin Volocko in the second inning.

Justin Castlen took the loss for Butler County. He surrendered five runs on eight hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

Will Embry, Jake McKee, and Clay Vincent each collected one hit to lead Butler County.

 

Butler County 10,  Breckinridge County 14

Butler County and Breckinridge County Tigers played a tight game, but Breckinridge pulled out the 14-10 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at ten going into the bottom of the sixth.

Despite the loss, Butler County did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Breckinridge County had ten hits on the way to victory.

The Tigers opened up scoring in the first inning when an error scored one run for Breckinridge County.

Butler County Bears scored four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive for the Bears was led by Justin Castlen and Layton Phelps, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Will Embry took the loss for Butler County. He surrendered five runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three.

Jake McKee started the game for the Bears. The hurler lasted three innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out one.

Butler County racked up nine hits in the game. Parker Pendley and Castlen all managed multiple hits for the Bears. Castlen and Pendley each collected two hits leading Butler County. Although the Bears stole five bases during the game, Clay Vincent led the way with two.
