Back to School 2018-19: A Message from Supt. Scott Howard

Welcome Back!  We are incredibly excited to begin the 2018-2019 school year in Butler County.  This promises to be a year filled with golden opportunities for all students. Our staff of highly qualified professional educators and support personnel are committed to providing our students these opportunities both inside and outside the classrooms.   Each year we strive to find ways to improve.  We embark on this journey with a pledge to you, our students and parents, this will be a year of engaging, meaningful, and rigorous work in our schools.

As the school year starts, we continue to find ways to ensure that we remain focused on continuously improving the academic performance of our students as well as our never ending commitment to a safe learning environment.  School employees will continue to work on building relationships by learning what is interesting and relevant to each student.  We must meet students wherever they are in their educational journey.

Our district-wide theme this year will be largely based on the New York Times Bestseller, “Make Your Bed-Little Things That Can Change Your Life, and Maybe the World.”  The book was written by retired Navy Seal, Admiral William H. McRaven.  Admiral McRaven focuses on simple lessons which deal with overcoming the trials of SEAL training.  The ten lessons are equally important in dealing with the any life challenges—no matter who you are.  It is my hope we can apply some of the lessons obtained over his career to our lives and the lives of our students.

We look forward to a very positive and productive upcoming school year. The success of a child depends on all of us working together collaboratively.  It is critical for  parent to feel welcome when they enter our buildings.   I want to extend a special year-long invitation to our families to join us for any school activity or school event whenever possible.  We value your support and want you to be involved in all facets of your child’s education.  Please know that home/school communication will be a high priority at every school.  I encourage you to contact any of the schools if/when the need arises.  We want you to have all of the information about your child’s academic studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities.

Our highly qualified employees care deeply about the success of students.  Our parents and community/business partners offer tremendous support to our schools.   I am looking forward to engaging with parents, students and community members during the upcoming school year. We will inspire success and a lifetime of learning in Butler County Schools through a strong partnership in which everyone is informed and connected  while working together.

On behalf of the Board of Education and the staff of the Butler County School District, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and community members for their past, present, and future support.  It would not be possible to continue our pursuit toward greatness for our students without you. In addition, I would like to acknowledge and thank the school district staff members for the work they do each day. Their dedication through countless hours of work with our children, and the love and care they provide is truly a blessing and an inspiration. Thank you for your commitment to the children in Butler County. I look forward to a wonderful year with many achievements and successes to celebrate!

It is my honor and pleasure to serve this community in our mutual pursuit of providing the best educational experience possible for the children of Butler County.  I believe with your continued support this will be the best year ever!

Take care,

Scott Howard, Superintendent

Butler County Schools
