Back to School 2018-19: MES Principal Jim Felty

When you think about the potential of your little one, playing in the yard as the summer winds down, it is hard not to smile.  To ponder the possibilities of what they’ll accomplish, who they’ll become and how much of their future will be spent happy.  That can be a great way to spend a hot July evening.  Ultimately as parents, we simply hope their lives are good ones.

At Morgantown Elementary, we hope and wonder the same things.  We have worked hard this summer to transform your child’s experience at MES into one that maximizes their potential.  New faces across grade levels, new approaches to learning and reinforcement of the best parts of Leader In Me all completed with one goal in mind...to help your child become a self-motivated learner.

I have been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of this process, and I can’t wait to see the smiling faces of our students as they embrace our new year of learning opportunities.  Our staff is hopeful and optimistic that this is the year that barriers are broken, growth is made and learning is internalized like never before.

Maximizing potential takes all of us working together.  A recent study from Harvard found that the number one way a parent can improve the learning of their students was by checking that homework was done...every night.  We’re going to do our part to help with that, with some new ways of communicating with parents and utilizing technologies that we have differently.  We want to help you help them.  We need you to come to PTO meetings, to attend SBDM meetings and become an active member of our MES family.  We’re the experts at education, but you are the experts when it comes to your kids.  Together we can accomplish something that we as a community have needed for a very long time.  We can produce responsible, driven students who can not only learn new skills but can seek out new knowledge and skills on their own.  They will grow up and transform our community, our town and change our county for the better.

Potential is an amazing thing.  It's hard to measure, and seems to only grow as we try to achieve it.  We plan on chasing potential all year long, and we hope that by next summer your child will continue to chase it, with your help and ours.  A year from now, as we get ready for another year of school, I want us to be smiling more and worrying less about what kind of a life, what kind of community our children will inherit.

Sincerely,

Jim Felty

Principal Morgantown Elementary School
