Back to School 2015-16: A Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Butler County Schools Families:
It is with great anticipation and excitement that I welcome you back for another school year. Although the summer break seems to fly by, I am sure parents and students alike are eager to get back to school. Bus routes are being finalized and if you are have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call the school or the central office. Our maintenance staff, along with the custodial staffs at each school, have done a wonderful job getting the district and schools ready for the first day.
There are many exciting changes to inform you about as we begin another school year. Here is a sampling of some of the changes:
• We have many personnel changes over the summer. These include several new teachers and paraeducators at each school. Butler County Middle School will have a new principal when the kids arrive on the first day of school. Mr. Robert Tuck, along with Mrs. Donna Annis, are two new instructional coordinators for the district. Mr. Jeff Jennings will serve as the new transportation supervisor.
• We are implementing the CEP Program at three of our schools. This program will allow us to offer free breakfast and lunch for every student at North Butler Elementary, Morgantown Elementary, and the Butler County Middle School. While we were not able to make the program work at Butler County High School this year, it is our hopes that breakfast and lunch will be free for all students in the district very soon. If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please call Mrs. Kaitlin Harrison, Director of Nutritional Services, at (270) 526-5624.
• We are excited to launch the “Leader in Me” program at Morgantown Elementary. This program is based on Covey’s Seven Successful Habits. Students will develop leadership skills and build character traits that will enable them to become more successful in all areas. While Morgantown Elementary will be serving a pilot this year, this program will begin at North Butler Elementary and the Butler County Middle School within the next couple of years. We are waiting for the company to develop a program for the high school. The district will eagerly be watching and awaiting its release.
• I will be utilizing two new technology components this school year. I will communicate through Twitter and Remind 101. I will send all stakeholders my Twitter information once it is complete. Remind 101 is a texting component which will allow messages to be typed and sent immediately after logging into the website. It will automatically be sent to teachers, parents, and principals who are signed up to receive the message.
• Finally, we are in the beginning phase of renovating many areas of the Butler County High School. Much of the work will be going on during the school year. We ask for your patience as the work progresses and we look forward to the finished product. Mr. Jimmy Arnold, our new facilities and maintenance supervisor, will work with the school leaders and architects to plan the work that will minimize any disruptions. Along with the renovations at the high school, new entryways will be completed at the Butler County Middle School and Morgantown Elementary.
In closing, as I enter my eighth year as your Superintendent, it is has been both humbling and an honor to serve this community in our mutual pursuit of providing the finest educational system possible for the children of Butler County. I firmly believe with all of us working together, the best days of the Butler County School System lie before us!
Superintendent Scott Howard
