Attorney access at jail discussed; former Magistrate Givens appointed to ambulance board

Butler County Jailer Wayne Russ

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, January 22.  All magistrates attended: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill and Dillon Bryant.

Before the meeting, in old business, the court held a hearing on removing part of Little Muddy Church Road.  No opposition to the removal was expressed during the hearing.  However, the court did have concerns about access to the cemetery.  The court voted to table removing a part of the road from county maintenance.

Under new business, magistrates went into a closed session under KRS 61.810  to discuss personnel matters and pending litigation.  Upon returning to open session, the court agreed to let the E-911 Supervisor Emily Tyree conduct interviews for positions and asked County Attorney Michelle Duvall to aggressively pursue bankruptcy collections on Thurman case for the county.

Butler County Jailer Wayne Russ reviewed the jail's policy and procedures regarding visitations of attorneys to inmates.  Russ had asked the court to approve Thursdays as the day for visits.  Public Defender David Graf was in attendance and stated that only one day was not feasible with his caseload.   Russ agreed and said a visit is possible as long as they have 24-hour notice.

"We want to make sure the inmate is not on work detail or class when his attorney needs to visit," said Russ.

Judge/Executive Tim Flener announced that Dwayne McKinney has stepped down from the Butler County Ambulance Board.  Flener stated that former magistrate Timmy Givens had agreed to finish McKinney's term.  Third District Magistrate Allen Smith made the motion to accept Givens, and his appointment was approved by a 4-1 vote, with Stevie Givens voting against the appointment.

The Court agreed to pay Bowling Green Machine and Welding $2652.99 to fix apron for Reeds Ferry and the Rochester Boat Dock.

The court approved the following dates: County Clean-Up Days - March 21-23 and Tire Amnesty Days -April 4-6.
