Andy Sullivan: October Song

I figured that finding songs tied to October in one way or another would be more difficult than September.  I was pleasantly surprised, as it was easier than I thought.  I first went to Spotify and typed in October songs.  So many options appeared that, if I included them all, this column would be many pages long.
The first song I noticed with October in the title, U2’s 1981 “October Song”, I’d actually not heard.  It’s only a few minutes long and is pretty piano-heavy.  Also, it’s a ballad-standard U2 in the early days.  The late Amy Winehouse has “October Song” from her 2008 album Frank.  That was a lot more upbeat.  I like it so much that I added it to my 2000’s Spotify playlist(2760 songs and growing).
There’s a song called “October House”.  I was intrigued, so I gave it a listen.  It’s a piano instrumental from an album called, and I’m completely serious here, Music for Dogs.  So if you have a dog that needs some soothing, you might want to give that album a shot.
Does anyone else remember ‘80’s pop group a-ha? They were the one hit wonders who sang “Take On Me”. In 1986, they released their second album called Scoundrel Days.  On the album, they had a very Terrance Trent Darby-type song called “October”.
Alternative group Broken Bells released a song called “October” a few years ago.  In 2011, Jonas Alaska released an acoustic track called “October”.  You’d likely hear this guy’s music in Starbucks.  He’s got that easy listening, acoustic vibe.
Evanescence and String Cheese Incident also have tracks with October in the title.  I’ve already thought of a good one for next month.  What is it? Well you’ll just have to wait and see!
