Andy Sullivan: Miracle on Broadway
Saturday December 20th, I travelled to Bridgestone Arena to see Kelly Clarkson’s Miracle on Broadway Christmas concert. The three hour concert featured Kelly, Reba, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn(they didn’t sing together), Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams, Megan Trainer, Garth, Chip Esten( Deacon from Nashville), and Kacey Musgraves. Each artist sang their favorite Christmas song.
Kacey did a great version of Feliz Navidad which she posted on her Instagram Sunday afternoon. Kelly would say several times over that she couldn’t believe all these heavy hitters came. She remarked that they might not have had Reba not been the first to sign on. Aside from being Reba, she’s also Kelly’s mother-in-law. That’s a pretty good ace in the hole, wouldn’t you say?
The concert was made that much better when you know that the whole show was for charity. Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Second Harvest Food Bank, Thistle Farms-a social enterprise run by women who have survived lives of prostitution, trafficking, addiction and life on the streets. Also benefitted were Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. They specialize in heart care, urology, neonatal medicine and fetal surgery, among other things. Second Harvest Food Bank in East Tennessee was also benefitted. They opened their doors in 1978. Their record-setting donation just four days prior to this writing helped East Tennessee profits. And they continue to provide assistance such as serving lunches, etc.
In between the performances, we would see touching videos from each charity benefitted. At show’s end, it was announced that over $200,000 was raised. Garth said he would match the donation. These announcements made Kelly emotional and were met with thunderous applause by the sold-out crowd in attendance. It was a great night of Christmas music for some great causes. Merry Christmas!!
