Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

The other day on the Dan Patrick Show, they were discussing what artist you’ve seen the most times.  The one that stood out most to me was NBA legend Bill Walton.  He says he’s seen the Grateful Dead at least 800 times in his life.  He still goes to see them, so that number is obviously climbing.
I posed the question on social media: which artist have you seen the most times in concert? One has seen Prince 8 times, including once in Germany.  I thought that was a lot until one replied that he’d seen Old Crow Medicine Show 9 times.  I don’t think I’ve seen any artist more than three times.
One friend has seen Jimmy Buffett 4 times and Fleetwood Mac twice.  Metallica made the list: one friend saw them 5 times.  I guess mine would be Garth Brooks.  The last time I saw him were 2 of his Nashville Flood relief benefit concerts.  I saw him in Evansville and Rupp back in the ‘90’s.
I saw Keith Urban at the Central City Music Festival when he was but an up-and-comer.  Two more shows of his that I saw were on back-to-back nights.  No, that wasn’t by design.  I had tickets to see him perform at the old Owensboro Executive Inn.  He had to cancel because of vocal problems. The next night, he was part of a show I saw in Louisville.  Four Garth shows and at least three KU shows are the most times I’ve seen an artist.
One husband and wife pair probably wins.  She’s seen Dave Matthews Band 4 times and her husband has seen them an amazing 21 times! My best friend saw Rascal Flatts twice.  Basically, if you’re a diehard fan of an artist and an avid concert goer, you’ll be apt to see that particular artist many times.  That and if you’ve got the money.
