Andy Sullivan; Against The Grain

Remember Bizarro Jerry on Seinfeld? Elaine’s ex Kevin, played by Tim DeKay, and Elaine decided that they were better as friends.  Elaine soon discovered, after visiting Kevin’s apartment that Kevin and his friends were mirror images of Jerry, George and Kramer.  Much like Bizarro Jerry, we are reaching the final weeks of a very bizarro NCAA basketball season.

When you live in a world where Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke and the rest of the usual suspects spent most of, if not the entire basketball season out of the top 25 when those teams usually dominate the rankings, bizarro world is about the only clean way to describe this season.  Gonzaga is undefeated which means they lose in the Elite Eight.  Although, with the usual suspects out of the way, who knows?

I’m still wearing my UK shirts, though.  I figure, “hey, I’ve got them.  Why not wear them? It doesn’t matter if this year’s team is terrible.  I’ll still rock the gear.  Maybe not as proudly but I’ve still been wearing it this season.  I heard “it’s gonna be a long March” on a Wendy’s commercial.

And with word that the N.I.T. is down to 16 teams this year, it’s a definite Kentucky is going nowhere.  That’s fine.  Fans don’t need to be subjected to that level of, I’m not even sure you can call what Kentucky has been doing on the court this year playing.

At the rate things are going, we may be hearing this at the end of the tournament: “Congratulations to your 2020-21 NCAA Men’s basketball champion Alabama Crimson Tide.  Hey, as crazy as the past 12 months have been, nothing would surprise me.
