Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

The thing about writers is that we are always writing.  Whether in story, book or song form, there is always something to say. Everyone has their own form of expression: This is ours.  Especially in this time of quarantine, an artist is never without something to say, some way to express themselves.

Since Thursday March 12 (I know the date because only one night of SEC tournament play was completed- Wednesday March 11), we have been in quarantine.  Yet it just dawned on me the other day to start journaling. Oh well. It’s not like I missed out on much.  We pretty much do the same thing seven days a week. You could say it’s like the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day.  Maybe I should watch that.  Could be something to relate to, right?

There are more than a few good things that this quarantine has given us.  From more time to listen to and make music to watching movies to family time (which some might be asking if so much of that really IS a good thing).  I used to keep a diary as a kid.   It was a little black book.  And that is the closest thing I have or will ever come to Sam Malone’s little black book.  Kids, if you do not know Sam Malone, please go back and watch a classic show called Cheers.  Talk about a masterclass in hilarity! And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Ellen asked on her show Tuesday if Twitch has home repairs that he and Allison has done over quarantine.  He said no to home repairs but yes to organization.  He said they got a lot from the Container Store.  My books are all organized on my shelves already because Adrian Monk is my hero.  You know he’d be all about this quarantine on account of using hand sanitizer and wipes 24/7.  We’re all Monk is what I’m saying.  Did I repeat anything I’ve said in a previous column? If so, we’ve all been doing that in our daily lives.  It is what it is.  I call these times the “quarantimes”.  After a while, and this is where a few might be right now, “quarantinitis” sets in. Thank you, I’m here all week!
