Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

What have you been doing in the midst of the Coronavirus quarantine? In the past few days, I’ve watched Angel Has Fallen (great movie), read and I’ve got the Hopper down to a personal best 16% (so far).  Most of it was late night tv and music shows I’ve accumulated over the past few weeks and months.

One of my favorite channels is AXS TV.  I record a lot on there: Impact Wrestling, Top Ten Revealed and Paul Schaffer Plus One.  Schaffer, as you might remember, Paul was musical director on Late Night With David Letterman for over 30 years-first at NBC and then at CBS.

The series is 9 episodes in.  Paul has talked to such legends as Martin Short, Smokey Robinson, Buddy Guy, Steely Dan cofounder Donald Fagen, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. Sammy Hagar, Graham Nash, Harry Shearer and Joe Walsh so far.  If you’re a music fan as I am, you’re going to love this series!

I finally caught up on Schitt’s Creek via Netflix.  Well, I’m on the final season.  I haven’t started yet because I missed those episodes live.  I originally thought I’d have to wait for the final season on Netflix but then remembered they add them on Hulu a lot quicker.  However, I like an entire season in front of me.  That way I can watch a chunk of the season or series at my leisure.

Reading, watching tv and working out are just a few things you can do to pass the time and fill your days during these times.  I occasionally add writing in this list.  I’m probably not going to live through another instance where the NCAA Tournament is cancelled.  When you live through something that has never happened.  There’s even talk of cancelling WrestleMania! Talk then turned to reality.  Reality then turned to “we might have it at a smaller venue with no fans in attendance”.  Hey, you do what you have to do”.

That’s what times like these are about.  You do what you have to do.  It’s like lyrics in Grateful Dead’s hit “Touch Of Grey” by “I will get by.  I will get by.  I will get by.  I will survive.  Or if you’d rather, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.  In fact, I hear the chorus is good to wash your hands to.  I’ve tried it.  It works.  And it’s probably the cleanest our hands have ever been!
