Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

During a visit to my sister and brothers-in-law to watch the NCAA Tournament this past weekend, I got inspired.  She was sitting in the floor and converting her CD’s to Spotify playlists.  That got the wheels turning.  I have quite a lot of CD’s both upstairs and down.  I thought, “why not add those to my phone? That way I could(hopefully) sell the cd’s”.  I say “hopefully” because, there aren’t many(if any) places who take cd’s anymore.

My favorite place to go was CD Warehouse in Bowling Green.  It was in the Kroger/IGA shopping center, if I recall correctly.  When they went out of business, I discovered McKay’s in Nashville.  Obviously that is a bit more out of the way than Bowling Green.  I’d say Bowling Green needs a new place but everything is digital now. Still, what to do with those old compact discs?

I like to go on the hunt.  That’s why I always like looking things up, learning new things.  I’m not sure if I found as much enjoyment in it in school as I do now (probably not).  I wasn’t exactly looking up stuff I was interested in back then.

I spent about an hour or so Sunday and a half hour Tuesday looking through my CD collection.  I split it.  I did the upstairs Sunday and the downstairs Tuesday.  I collected a lot of CD’s over the years.  Enough, in fact, to have 71 hours on my Country playlist!  The only one I had to do a deep dive on was Miami Vice.  That soundtrack is 34 years old!

If you have a CD collection, whether it be lengthy like mine or just a few, I suggest adding them to whatever music service to which you subscribe.  That way, you’ll always have it with you.  No matter what you want to listen to, no matter what the occasion.

Now that I’ve streamlined my music collection, I wonder what else I can streamline?
