Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

There are a lot of things that stick in your memory forever: your high school graduation, college graduation, your first job, your first shooting.  “Wait! What was that last one”? you might’ve asked yourself.  Thursday morning, May 3, we set out for Nashville for Mom’s birthday.  We were meeting Amy and Brock and taking Mom shoe shopping for her birthday.

We ate at Burger Republic.  I had the barbeque burger.  I believe it was called the Tennessee(fittingly).  I recommend it.  Afterwards, we went to several shoe stores.  Don’t expect me to remember which store.  Whatever shoe stores are in there, we probably went to them.

We were leisurely making our way towards the mall exit when we heard it: 3-4 gunshots and screams! We obviously ran out of there fast.  My sister really took charge.  She went into boss mode, well, leader mode. We got out with mom’s shoes, by the way!  I’m sure a bunch of you heard about this on the news.

The next day, I was going to the mailbox, heard what sounded like a shot and jumped.  Gun shy? Well, yeah! The following day, I saw where one of my Facebook friends had shared a gun post.  Rather than speak my mind to someone who probably would just call me a snowflake or something, I hid his posts.  Call it a rash decision but I just don’t have the time or patience for certain things anymore.  I hear that happens as you get older.
