Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

The chill of an early Fall isn’t just a George Strait classic.  As I type this, it’s 45 degrees.  That isn’t bad when you consider it’ll probably be 20 in about a month.  Sunday, we had a church hayride and met back at the church basement for refreshments.  Those of us who went on the hayride were definitely glad to get back in the warmth, especially since there’s a fireplace in the basement.
You can really tell the change of seasons, not only by the leaves on the ground or atmosphere in the air, but you can tell by what you see on your television.  For instance, the morning after Halloween, I saw a Christmas commercial.  I’m not kidding! That’s really not shocking.  It seems as though Christmas ads are airing earlier every year.  Just a friendly reminder: Thanksgiving is in November.  You remember Thanksgiving? It’s on the 4th Thursday of this month.  It’s always on a Thursday.  You have food, family, football. You know how it goes.  You might see a Thanksgiving commercial but I bet you see more Christmas commercials.
Back to the hayride: if you’re going on a hayride, make sure you wear enough clothes.  You’d think that’d be a no-brainer.  Thing is, when you wake up from a Sunday afternoon nap with just a few minutes to spare until time to leave, you pretty much grab whatever is out.  I had a hoodie, long sleeve button down shirt, a UK beanie and gloves.  Turns out, I needed to add a thermal long sleeve undershirt.  Oh well.  The more you know, right?
WWE Survivor Series is also this month! Did I just lose some of you with that previous sentence? It’s okay. I won’t expound upon SS but it’s another fall event I’m looking forward to.  Fans and those in the company have called it the Fall Classic.  That might upset some baseball fans who swear up and down that the World Series is the one and only Fall Classic.  Speaking of which, we have a game seven in the World Series for the second year in a row.  It’ll likely have been played by the time this is posted, so congratulations to the Dodgers/Astros.  I don’t pay as much attention when St Louis isn’t in or, in this case, didn’t even make the playoffs.
These next few months will certainly be fun and busy.  It’s certainly the busy time of year.  Take the time to enjoy every bit of it!
