Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

I get excited at even the prospect of starting a new book.  Cracking it open, smelling that new book smell.  The new story I’m about to read and the new characters that will soon invade my brain space, the new journey on which I’m about to embark secures one thing I’ve probably known all my life.  I, Andy Sullivan, am a proud nerd.

I started reading for enjoyment.  Sometimes, I can read several books per week.  Other times, I’ll tackle a bigger book that takes longer.  I don’t discriminate, either.  I’ll read books off Kindle as well as hardcover.  If there was such a thing as Kindle when I was a kid, I’d been a nerd a lot sooner.

I’m on www.goodreads.com which has a virtual bookshelf where you can keep up with all the books you’ve read.  In the entire time I’ve been a member, since 2014, I’ve read 101 books.  It’s a pretty neat website.  Not only is there a virtual bookshelf.  You can follow people, have friends, It’s like Facebook and Twitter but without all the petty annoyances.

Here’s how Goodreads works: You add a book to your bookshelf and you can update progress at any time.  You can set goals for yourself as to how many books you plan to read in a year: your challenge.  I’m actually reading more since I joined this website.  Maybe it’s because I’m sort of in competition with myself.  And that’s the only person in which you really should be in competition.

My favorite genre’s are action, humor and autobiographies.  I just finished the hardback of John Calipari’s Players First book.  I have a small bookshelf of ones I haven’t yet read.  So, kick back, grab a good book and get taken away to another place for a little while.  Just make sure you’re not mobile!
