Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

This week, I take a detour from my county series to talk about something that I have grown to greatly enjoy: attending St. Louis Cardinals baseball games.  Much like a kid’s trip to get an ice cream, going to a game is, for me, a special treat.  As I write this, I’m watching Bowling Green East All-Stars in LLWS and Carson Myers hit a 3-run homer.  I cracked “The St. Louis Cardinals could’ve used you last night, boy”.

My brother-in-law and I got our pre-game grub on at the ballpark.  More specifically, the complex that includes the gift shop, food vendors, etc.  We got some great BBQ ribs, chicken wings and bratwurst.  Well, I assume the brats were.  I left those for Brock.

It was Beatles night at the ballpark.  That meant two things: a Beatles tribute band played before the game (we heard a few songs.  They were very good).  Also, we got a free Beatles t-shirt.  Our seats were behind the home dugout.  So, there was actually a very good chance to catch a foul ball.  We got close once.  One of the opposing batters hit one right in our direction but it went two rows above us.  Unfortunately it was not the Cardinals night, as they lost to the Mets 7-4.

If you ever have the opportunity to go to the ballpark of your favorite team, I suggest you do so.  It’s a great time, win or lose.
