Against The Grain:Time

Andy Sullivan

The passing of time is really a gift from God, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time.  Things get easier with time, save for a select few things.  One of those is the tragic events of September 11, 2001.  I sit here writing this on September 11, 2012.  Has it really been eleven years? That is so hard to believe.
I still recall everything from that fateful day.  I imagine I always will.  From over-sleeping to getting the call to turn on the television, to barely touching my cereal as I stood watching in stunned silence, it all comes back to me. I finally sat, but it was one of those feel for the chair because you couldn’t take your eyes off the television type things.
Eleven years later and a lot of things have changed.  The lead perpetrator has been eliminated. Many much needed precautions have been taken and new policies implemented for the safety of we the American public.  We are safer because of the men and women of our Armed Forces, for which I’d like to thank them all as well as our firefighters, policemen, and all those who work tirelessly for hours on end, day and night, to keep us free. The one thing that hasn’t changed is our love for America.  Actually, perhaps it has.  Prior to 9-11, we took things for granted.  That is no longer the case.
I’m blessed to have a lot of friends and family who have served or are serving.  Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover it.  We will all be forever in your debt.
