Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan
Fall festivals, county field days and football can only mean one thing: Fall is here! Autumn is the most elegant way to describe a season, I’ve read. I never thought about it but I suppose that’s correct. There really isn’t another name for Summer, Winter, Spring.
The colors that Fall brings makes everything look like an oil painting: perfect for picture taking or just taking it in. Hayrides and festivals, Halloween and Thanksgiving are just a few more positives of the season. There’s nothing quite like breathing in that cool fall air. Even when it’s a little chillier, it’s a great time to pull out that lite jacket or hoodie(of which I have quite a few).
Comfort food is in season. Foods such as butternut squash casserole, pumpkin flavored everything, the smell of a fresh bowl of candy corn, and my favorite, homemade fried apple pies. I’ve heard mixed opinions on candy corn: some like it, some hate it. And it’s not a passing “I don’t care for it. I’ve actually heard some hate for the candy. Salted caramel and caramel apples are in season. Caramel is pretty much the flavor of Fall, isn’t it?
The fall rain just smells better than spring or summer rain. Also, you don’t get that muggy post-rain feeling, usually. A cold drizzle? Break out the hoodies, sweaters and sweatshirts! The colors of Fall make everything look stunning, even if it’s old and worn. One of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken was of a barn on a hayride a few fall seasons ago. The right fall colors and some leaves were around it. I actually used it as the background to my old laptop.
The smell of crisp air on an open road, the first sip of a steamy beverage on a crisp day, A few others are Halloween, the crunch of leaves as you step on them, the smell of freshly made s’mores, orange hues at sunset and the crackling of a roaring fire are just a few fall favorites.
Chilly weather, fall fashion, Halloween are a few more Fall positives. Of all those great things, if I had to rank them, I’d have to go off the board for my #1: my best friend’s birthday is October 29! Then Halloween is two days later so it’s a fun few days. Those are many of the reasons to love fall. Two more: football and college basketball season is on the horizon! I know I mentioned football previously but it bears repeating. Talk about a busy and fun season. GO CATS! GO TITANS!
