Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan

Back when veteran newsman Andy Rooney passed away, I posted an article about it on facebook.  Several said I reminded them of him.  The man had an incredibly long career as a journalist, so I’m good with the comparison. Much like that Andy, the older this Andy gets, the less he puts up with other people’s crap.

Does that mean I’m hard to be around? No, I’m not terrible, yet.  I have, however, been taken advantage of because I’m a nice guy.  I do know when to stop that type of thing. If you’re like this also, it doesn’t mean you have to start being a total jerk.  What it means is that you have to choose when to be nice and when to be, well, not so nice.

The older you get, or at least is my case, the more set in my ways I become. I recently said to a very good friend that I was perhaps getting more stubborn, set in my ways, as I get older.  What was the response? She said that happens to everyone as we age.  I knew that, but guess I wanted to see if others were like that as well.  Truth is, we all have those tendencies whether or not we want to admit it.

I guess I’m not too bad at 33.  It’s not that I’m totally non-flexible about things. I’m sure I’ll get some “just wait until you hit __” responses.  Am I right?
