ACT Scores Released

Butler County High School juniors taking the ACT college-entrance exam during the 2011-12 school year showed improvement from the previous year. 43.5% of the students met CPE benchmark standards in English, 25.4% met the benchmark in Mathematics, and 37% met the benchmark in Reading. This year improvement has been made in both English and reading. The percentage of students meeting the benchmark in mathematics is down by 1.6% from last year.

"I am very proud of our students and teachers, we are moving in the right direction.  We are not where we want to be, but have put things like ACT Prep in place to help better prepare our students," said Scott Howard, Butler County Superintendent.

CPE has set systemwide standards for college readiness based on ACT's English, mathematics, and reading assessments. Meeting the systemwide standards of readiness guarantees students access to credit-bearing coursework without the need for developmental education or supplemental courses.

Since 2008, all of Kentucky's public school juniors have been mandated to participate in the ACT, which is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. The cost of the exam is paid for by state funds. In spring 2012, 44,516 public school juniors took the ACT. In WCPS, 1,064 took it. That's up from 957 the previous year.
