Aberdeen Trading Post Receives Community Improvement Award At Chamber Luncheon

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon on Thursday, March 22 at the Butler County Extension Service office. Chamber President Jamie Chaney welcomed all of those in attendance including the visitors. The meal was catered by the Butler County Homemakers.

After the meal, Chaney presented the Community Improvement Award to the Aberdeen Trading Post. (pictured at the top). Co-owner Brenda Brooks  accepted the award. The Aberdeen Trading Post is located at 2222 Beaver Dam Road, and they are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Other notes passed along at the luncheon included the deadline extension of the Community Cook Book to April 1st.
Warren RECC sponsored the "Know Your Community" questions.
The 2012 Catfish Festival will be held July 4-7.  Fireworks will kick off the Festival on Wednesday, July 4th.
The guest speaker was Greg Drake II, Butler County Extension Agent. Drake spoke on agriculture's impact on the economic development of Butler County. According to Drake
Butler County has an area of 431 square miles, and a population of 12,690.

Of the adults 25 years of age and older 72.6 percent are high school graduates and  7.8 percent have a bachelor's degree.

The median household income is $33,703 annually with 19.1 percent of Butler Countians  living below the poverty level.
Currently there are 778 farms in Butler County with 28 of those being over 1,000 acres. 

"Butler County farmers sold $16,123,000 in crops and $14,258,000 in livestock in 2008," said Drake. Butler County is 45th in the state in the value of agriculture production."

Drake also shared the cost of production.  "It costs around $577 an acre to plant corn and less to plant an acre of soybeans," added Drake.
 The Butler County Field Day will be held on September 6, 2012, at the City Park beginning at 4:00pm.
