4th Annual Butler County Genealogy Society Event

Roger Givens, Jessica Moon-Deweese, and Brenda Longofer

The Butler County Genealogy Society held their fourth annual homecoming event on Saturday at the Eva J. Hawes Building in Morgantown.  Over 40 people from Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Lexington, Louisville and Butler County attended.

According to Jessica Moon- Deweese, one of the organizers, the event all started with a couple of people on a Facebook page - My Roots Are in Butler Co. Kentucky - who wanted to make a gathering so everyone could meet. The first homecoming event was held at the Woodbury Museum, the second at Little Muddy Church Community Building, and the third at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Guest speakers from Friends of Eastern Cemetery in Louisville gave a presentation on Cemetery Preservation and Repair.  Local historian Roger Givens spoke about the history of Butler County cemeteries.  The group also toured Bell Cemetery in Morgantown.
