4-H Camp Information

By:  Lloyd G. Saylor, County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development

Once again, it’s time for 4-H Camp, and if you haven’t gotten your application in, now is the time to do so!!  Last year, over 100 youth and adults from Butler County attended 4-H Camp at Dawson Springs.  Our camping dates this year are July 14 - July 18, 2014 and we still have spots remaining.

What is 4-H Camp?  It is one week of fun-filled activities for youth from fourth through eighth grade.  Youth participate in classes ranging from rifle marksmanship, swimming, boating, nature study, arts and crafts through foods, first aid and classes on various sports.

We also have low-elements and high elements challenge courses.  The Challenge Courses are based on a series of obstacles in which the goal is to get an entire group of 4-Her's through to the objective together.

While at camp, youth stay in modern, attractive facilities with cafeteria-style meals.  Each cabin is staff with at least one adult and one teen leader.  Each camp is also staffed with an emergency medical technician on site 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency, certified lifeguards and instructors for nature and recreation.  Adult volunteers may serve as cabin counselor or can share their talents and skills by being a camp instructor or taking other leadership roles.

4-H Camp is an exciting, fun-filled, safe educational opportunity for Butler County youth.  The cost is $189 and includes transportation to and from the camp, three meals and two snacks a day and four nights of overnight lodging.
