2016 5K Bear Run/Walk a Success

It’s not every Saturday that you see a large group of people gather in front of Butler County Middle School for a morning run, but early on April 16th, 2016, people did just that. “After months of preparation, the 2016 BCHS 5K Bear Run/Walk was a success, and this is for such a great cause.” Explained Aaron Richmond, one of the event’s organizers. “We would like to thank all the participants that came out.”

People of all ages signed up to run or walk as a way to raise money for Project Prom. An event that is totally self-funded to provide a way for prom goers to enjoy a safe night. “The 5K Bear Run/Walk among several other events are fundraisers to raise money for BCHS’s Project Prom—which is a fun filled night of activities for JR/SR’s to attend after prom to prevent the temptations of alcohol & drug use.” Richmond went on to explain. “Project Prom is for our student’s safety and we could not be more blessed with how many community members, businesses, students, and parents came together to make the 5K run happen.”

The 5K run is one of the largest fundraisers for Project Prom, and with 200+ the signup and the 80+ participants in the event, the money raised will help make the night a huge success. “The 5K Bear Run/Walk has raised between $2,000-$2,100.”

If you would like to donate monetarily or with your time, please contact the Butler County High School at 270-526-2204. Project Prom will be held after Prom on Saturday, April 30th.
