2012 Extension Field Day

The Butler County Extension Service/Butler County Farm Bureau Field Day will be Thursday, September 6th 2012 at the Eva Hawes Community and Agriculture Exhibition Center in the Morgantown City Park.  The program will begin at 4:00 p.m. with registration beginning at 3:30 p.m.
This year’s Butler County Field Day will be very diverse with demonstrations and displays that will interest all members of the family.  There will be an agricultural tour that will highlight improved agricultural production practices, and an alternative program that will stay at the community center.  There will be a demonstration on pasture poultry for those that want to learn more about how to care for a small flock of chickens.  There will be a demonstration on home composting.  There is a lot of interest in sustainability and composting allows people to recycle a lot of their kitchen waste and turn it into a useful product.  There will also be a demonstration on composting livestock mortalities on the farm.  These three demonstrations will be conducted by UK extension specialists.
The alternative program, coordinated by Shanna Drake, will offer participants the chance to learn more about using local foods to feed their family.   There will also be displays about topics of interest to Butler County families. Attendees can participate in these activities and enjoy a great afternoon.
A delicious meal will be provided for everyone after the tours (usually 6:30 p.m.).  Attendees will have a chance to win some terrific door prizes.  Last year’s field day was attended by 125 people.
If you will be participating in the county CAIP cost share program this field day will count as your educational activity.  Come out and help us make this event even bigger.  There is no charge to attend the field day.  Mark your calendars now.
