19th Annual Jakes Day

Addilyn Phelps

For the 19th year, the Butler County Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF came together to orchestrate the Jakes Day event. A total of ninety kids came out to fish, and the chapter itself has an impressive 102 children signed up as members.  The day allows children the opportunity to be outdoors, fish, understand the importance of conservation, and promote the National Wildlife Turkey Federation.

Sons of Jordan Johnson
The scenically beautiful property where this event took place belongs to Russell and Barbra Haynes and his sister Shelia Graham.  The lake was stocked on Friday the day before the fishing took place with 800 pounds of fish. The weather was fantastic for children and adults of all ages to sit on the bank of the lake while they fished and fellowshipped. Awards were given for biggest fish, the first turtle caught, and 60 other gifts given away throughout the day.
